What does The Shire Group Training do?
The Shire Group Training (TSGT) employs Apprentices and Trainees and places them with host employers for training and employment purposes. This means the Apprentice or Trainee is an employee of TSGT and is hosted by the host employer. TSGT is responsible for the administration of employment including recruitment, wages, workers' compensation, superannuation, annual leave and sick leave.
TSGT establishes and manages formal training and advises the Apprentice or Trainee on the details of training required. TAFE attendance and progress is monitored by TSGT.
How does the recruitment of the Apprentice or Trainee work?
1. If required we will advertise the position on SEEK, however, candidates may be available and selected from our database or from the host employers' own shortlist.
2. Following advertisement or referral from Host employer, we will then conduct industry recognised and appropriate pre selection testing.
We pride ourselves on our ability to thoroughly screen and recommend applicants.
Our Pre Selection testing involves up to 4 Multiple Choice Tests:
- Mathematics (Yr 10 level)
- Standard Progressive Matrices (Problem Solving)
- Applied Reading
- Mechanical Reasoning (for applicable Trades)
Each of these tests will be marked and graded according to the marking scale as either Low, Below Average, Average, Above Average or High
3. Following testing of the candidates, each candidate will then be interviewed by one of The Shire Group Training highly experienced and knowledgeable Employment Placement Officers to determine which candidates are suitable for referral to Host Employer for consideration for interview.
4. Once suitable candidates are identified, the host employer is invited to conduct a final interview / assessment and then advises The Shire Group Training of successful candidate. The Shire Group Training will then organise for the apprentice/trainee to be signed up by an Australian Apprenticeship Centre in readiness for commencement of employment.
Who manages the payroll?
Employment of Apprentices through The Shire Group Training is under the specified award for the chosen industry. Staff pay, including the determination of allowances and entitlements (such as workers compensation, holiday pay and loading, and 9% superannuation), keeping wage records, and paying group taxes are managed by us. Employment of Trainees is under TSGT own award which corresponds with the National Training Wage.
Who pays for Workers Compensation claims?
Workers Compensation is one of the greatest costs to any business. As an employee of The Shire Group Training, this cost is paid by us. The Worker’s Compensation paperwork and management of cases is also completed by us.
What does it cost and how do I pay?
The cost of providing these services to you is covered by an invoice forwarded each week by our Finance Department. By using the streamlined services that our company provides, you can have that extra pair of hands and reduce the hassles sometimes associated with hiring a trainee or apprentice.
- The cost to hire a trainee will be dependent on their age and year of schooling as stipulated by the National Training Wage 2004.
- The cost to hire an apprentice is based on the relevant award, allowances and the number of years the apprentice has already completed (if applicable).
